Shahrukh Khan, who was appreciated for the role of a doomed lover in 2002 remake of “Devdas”, earlier played by Dilip Kumar in the 1955 film of the same name, feels nobody can imitate the thespian.
“You can’t imitate Mr Dilip Kumar. Whoever copies Dilip Kumar, they are idiots like me,” said Shah Rukh at the launch of Nasreen Munni Kabir’s book “The Dialogue of Devdas”, which has complete dialogues by Rajinder Singh Bedi, based on a screenplay by Nabendu Ghosh and lyrics by Sahir Ludhianvi from Bimal Roy’s immortal classic “Devdas”.
Shah Rukh Khan starrer “Devdas” was treated differently by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who gave it a larger than life feel and the magnum opus had Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai as Chandramukhi and Paro respectively. The film won lots of awards.
Dilip Kumar could not make it to the event. However, he sent a letter and Shah Rukh read it out at the event at the Mehboob Studios.
After a decade of the film’s release, Shah Rukh feels that it was stupid of him to go ahead and do “Devdas”, which is a big screen adaptation of Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel.
“I am not someone who would like to do something which has been so beautifully crafted. I have a very deep regard for the fact that my parents loved ‘Devdas’. I was very young and stupid that I said yes and did it, but as I am getting mature, hopefully more intelligent, and perhaps would not be able to do it this time,” the 46-year-old said.
The first Hindi director to adapt the book was P.C. Barua who made it with K.L. Sehgal, then came the Dilip Kumar’s version in 1955, followed by the SRK starrer.
The superstar also feels he would have never mustered the courage to to be part of “Devdas” had he seen Dilip Kumar’s version.
“Had we seen the film before making it, we would never had the guts to make it. Sanjay, Aishwarya and Madhuri we all felt that first we should finish the film then we should watch it,” he said.
It is said that so far the novel has been made into films 15 times, including in languages like Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Urdu and Assamese. – IANS
Vidya Balan, who has been on a success spree after her films “No One Killed Jessica” and “The Dirty Picture”, took a lot of time before zeroing on to Sujoy Ghosh’s “Kahaani.”
“Sujoy came to me with a script, which I didn’t like. Then he said I will bring to you one idea after another till you like it. I thought he was just saying it. But he actually came with a lot of ideas to me and I liked this one a lot and asked him to develop it and that we will see. But till the time the script was not complete, I didn’t say yes,” the 33-year-old said while promoting “Kahaani” at Radio Mirchi.
Releasing March 9, “Kahaani” tells the story of a pregnant woman who comes to Kolkata in search of her missing husband.
“He patiently waited for me and thank god he did that because it has been a great experience. I have been associated with this film in different capacities besides acting. After ‘Parineeta’, this is the film with which I feel so associated in terms of the process – from scripting to locations,” she said.
Vidya admits she takes her own sweet time before selecting a script.
“I take time in saying yes to a script only because I want to be completely sure that this is the film I want to do,” said Vidya, who has been picking up all the awards for her portrayal of southern siren ‘Silk’ in “The Dirty Picture”. – IANS

Bipasha Bas”s first huge film of the year “Players” bombed at the box office, but this hasn’t affected her career. She has moved on.
“I am very clinical towards my films. Once the film is released, I am disconnected. Move on to your next because that’s your next passion that you work for. You can just about work in a film, promote it…post that you can’t do anything and after that you have to move on,” she said.
However, she confessed that she regrets doing few films in the beginning of her career.
“I don’t think I have made too many mistakes. I pretty much loved the experience of every film that I have worked on. It’s just for the couple of few in the first three years I have done some bizarre work like ‘Ishq Hai Tumse’, ‘Gunaah’, ‘Nehle Pe Dehla’ and ‘Rudraksh’…I don’t want to see them also,” she said. – IANS

Shahrukh Khan had tough time teaching son
“English is a very funny language,” figured Shah Rukh Khan when he sat down to give his son Aryan some lessons in the language.
“Teaching clauses and phrases to son, workout cancelled. Who made up these English rules… it’s so much easier..the English on twitter and SMS,” tweeted Shah Rukh, who is nevertheless fluent in the language.
While King Khan indirectly lauded the use of abbreviations and slangs in social networking mediums, megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who is currently in hospital for medical treatment, has often been amused by it. – IANS
I’ve always admired Rekha – Vidya Balan
If Vidya Balan’s sari-clad, traditional look is reminiscent of the evergreen Rekha, the similarity is meant to be! The actress says she has always been inspired by Rekha, be it her looks, her attitude or her body of work.
At a recent award function in Mumbai, the two actresses looked quite similar, and Vidya only feels flaterred with the compliment.
“This is the biggest compliment. I am inspired by Rekha. She is who she is and I have always admired her. When she was doing films, she was doing commercial as well as non-commercial films. She has been an inspiration on that (front),” Vidya told reporters here.
“Besides, I loved her styling and I love to wear saris. I love kanjeevaram saris. The image that I have of true Indian women, comes from Rekha and my mother. So, if people say I am like Rekha, then I am thrilled,” added the 33-year-old.
Vidya is currently gearing up for her next film “Kahaani”, directed by Sujoy Ghosh. The movie is scheduled for release March 9. – IANS
