Hey all,
I was curious to see if I could get some quick recommendations. I've looked around the forums a bit and done a few searchs but I haven't came up with much and my time is somewhat limited. My situation is that I've recently got back from overseas while serving with the Army and I've received about $200 (gift certifcates) from JCPenny as a result of a drawing with the IAVA. They expire on January 30th and I can use them online.They are limited to shoes and men's clothing. I'm just looking for some help one what's in. I know JCpenny isn't really in or whatever but I should take advantage of this offer! I'm about 5'7 150 pounds and I'm planning on going back to school to take advantage of the new GI Bill. So I'll be leaning towards more of a casual look.

If I was you I'd get some dress shirts; get your neck size and arm length taken.

If I were you I would go to an actual store instead of ordering online.
Your goal is to find clothes that fit well and suit your needs. I would stick to shirts, pants, socks, underwear, and maybe even polos. A common error is buying things that are either too big or just ugly.. Try to plan out what you need ahead of time amd search for those items there.

Agreed! At my local store they have big racks with shirts on sale. I have gotten a lot of Van Heusen and similar brand shirts for $2-$7. Might not be made-to-measure or whatever, but that's a price NO ONE can pass up!

It really depends on what you already own, but I think most people would agree that without more specifics it's safe and easy to recommend that you pick up some classic and timeless men's staple items. If you want a more casual look then starting from the bottom up you could go for brown boots, blue jeans, brown chinos, brown leather belt, plain white tee, blue check or tattersall shirt, grey wool scarf, and a pea coat. Depending on your personal style and preference you can then add other more quirky or colourful items but these should form a good base for a casual student wardrobe. I'm not familiar with JCPenny but a quick look at their website makes me think you could find all these items.

Definitely go to a store, as I read JcP is doing deep discounts. You'll want to get some really good fitting clothes, otherwise most lines there will make you look like you're wearing dad pants. I'd just go for plain white, blue, and light pink dress shirts and maybe a slim fitting pair of chinos and socks.

Ordering online sometimes can get tricky especially if you're not sure about your fit or style, plus actual stores can personally assist you during fittings.

purchasing online has its advantages as well but you might want to visit the physical stores as well to get great deals.
